Alex Trebek Injures Leg While Chasing Hotel Burglar

Alex Trebek, crime fighter?

The Jeopardy host took on a new role recently when he attempted to stop a robbery at a hotel he was staying at. He appeared on crutches Wednesday at the National Geographic World Championship at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., where he told his story.

"It happened at 2:30 a.m., chasing a burglar down the hallway of my San Francisco hotel when my Achilles tendon ruptured and I then fell on carpet, bruising the other leg in the process," Trebek, 70, explained to Patch.com. "Surgery on Friday."

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a hotel guest woke up early Wednesday to find somebody in the room, and a chase ensued. Police didn't identify the victim or the hotel, but said the victim was injured.

Trebek's crime fighting paid off as the 56-year-old culprit was eventually apprehended by hotel security and booked by police for investigation of burglary and receiving stolen property.

We'll take "Brave Game Show Hosts" for $400, Alex!
